Vietnam is not only for the adventure seeking expat, but for the one who seeks a high quality of life as well. Vietnam has gorgeous green landscapes, kilometer after kilometer of pristine beaches, and a visually stunning and rugged mountainous range bordering on Laos and Cambodia. In addition to its natural wonders, Vietnam is also famous for its delicious fresh foods (arguably the best in East Asia), large and active western expat community, warm and welcoming Vietnamese locals and energetic, cosmopolitan cities (Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi) full of fine restaurants, trendy shopping malls, cinemas, and an interesting cultural sites. Additionally, Vietnam is safe, fairly easy to navigate and interconnected with mass transit. English, however, is not spoken by everyone and this may cause the expat some complications, particularly in retail establishments.

Cost of Living

Cost of living

Living in Vietnam is good on an expat budget. According to Xpatulator.com’s July 2016 report, the cost of living in Vietnam is well below most other nations in the world. This is evident with a number of goods and services such as groceries, restaurants, alcohol, Internet service, home furnishings, recreation and transport. Surprisingly, however, household accommodations is a bit pricey. Still, the western expatriate will generally find him or herself ahead financially in Vietnam. Not only will they live comfortably, but will likely be able to save a little money as well.
