Lifestyle

Lifestyle

Without question, the quality of life is very good in New Zealand. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s annual Better Life Index, New Zealand ranks at the top in social connections and health and above average subjective well-being, personal security and environmental quality. Expats can expect a fairly easy to live in socially liberal culture with modern cities and beautiful natural landscapes inclusive of gorgeous coastlines and a picturesque “Lord of the Rings” interior. New Zealand caters to both nature loving outdoorsy expats as well as the more urbane artsy types. All should feel at home in this island nation.

Cost of Living

Cost of living

The quality of life in New Zealand does not come cheap for the visiting expatriate. Indeed, according to Xpatulator’s July 2016 report, the cost of living in New Zealand is higher than the international average. This becomes apparent when one purchases any number of goods and services such as transport (petrol), an Internet plan, clothing, groceries, alcohol, restaurant meals and entertainment and recreational activities. Still, housing accommodations, furniture and appliances and healthcare all tend to be more reasonably priced. For a teaching expat to live comfortably in New Zealand, he or she must negotiate a contract that reflects the cost of living.
