Leopardfish  Country Guide

Serbia is a more gritty European location and generally unspoiled by western franchises and tourism. While the official language is Serbian, English is a common second language among locals. This makes it easier for English speaking expatriates while shopping retail, doing business and navigating throughout the country. Serbia also offers the foreign expat a safe and friendly environment in which to live. Belgrade is similar to other European cities in that t’s full of music, festivals, fine restaurants, outdoor cafes, shopping malls, cinemas and impressive cultural institutions. The Serbian countryside is magnificent and replete with mountains, wild forests, inland lakes and rivers, farmlands and grassy plains. Its landscape is dotted with charming medieval towns, churches and castles. There is certainly much for the expat to do both in and out of doors in Serbia.

Cost of Living

Cost of living

Residing in Serbia is good on the western expatriate’s budget. Indeed, according to Xpatulator’s July 2016 report, the cost of living in Serbia is well below the international average. This becomes apparent when one purchases any number of goods and services in Serbia such as a housing accommodation, transport, healthcare, an Internet plan, groceries, restaurant meals, alcohol and local retail recreation. Assuming that a teaching expat negotiates a fair remuneration with their new international school employer, they should be able to both live comfortably in Serbia (fully exploiting all the wonderful things that it has to offer) as well as save some money.
